DISTRIBUTED SENSING / APPLICATION GUIDE

Fiber Optic Power Cable Monitoring

Fiber optic power cable monitoring can provide a temperature profile along an installed sensing fiber. Distributed temperature sensing (DTS) helps teams examine where thermal conditions change and where closer investigation may be needed.

01

DTS power cable monitoring

A distributed temperature sensing system combines sensing fiber with a DTS interrogator. Power cable temperature monitoring uses these measurements to examine thermal trends along the route. High voltage cable temperature monitoring and cable hotspot detection depend on how the sensing fiber is positioned relative to conductors and surrounding materials. Temperature alone does not establish a safe electrical load.

02

Transformers, substations and fire detection

Fiber optic transformer monitoring and substation fiber optic monitoring require sensors appropriate to the equipment and measurement location. Fiber optic fire detection, also described as linear heat detection using fiber optic cable, is a separate engineered application. Any life-safety system must meet the applicable design, certification and response requirements; this application overview is not a claim that Tranzmeo supplies a certified fire alarm system.

From measurements to temperature intelligence

For a power cable temperature monitoring system, discuss the measurement format, sample interval, route mapping and alarm workflow with Tranzmeo. The hardware-agnostic platform approach separates data acquisition from software interpretation. Support for a specific instrument and operational use case must be established during technical evaluation.
