Pipeline monitoring is all about accuracy, speed, and intelligence to detect anomalies on time.
As the pipelines are highly susceptible to earthquakes and other environmental chemical reactions, leaks or cracks can be formed on them easily. The alarming rate of oil and gas pipeline spills makes the companies resort to more advanced methods of pipeline monitoring to minimize losses and protect the environment.
T-Connect OneView
T-Connect OneView is an advanced anomaly detection software that runs with the power of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to provide the real-time status of all the activities in the pipelines. OneView makes it much more effortless to locate any undesirable activities that happen in or around the premises of the targeted pipelines.
Unlike the traditional DAS/DTS systems, OneView’s advanced brain can precisely distinguish the nature of the activity such as manual digging, machine digging, vehicle activity, and internal PIG activity. OneView has a sensor hardware that is deployed on the pipelines and it sends the signals simultaneously to the AI software. The application consists of an authentication system that can be administrated by CROs, ROUs, and line walkers who cover the pipeline patches.
OneView displays the status of the real-time events both on a map view and satellite view. The details of the activity are shown in the OneView system’s dashboard both graphically and numerically.
Alarm generation in OneView
Based on a set of pre-defined alarm rules, the system generates an alarm on each intrusion or activity that occurs on the pipeline. There can be various kinds of activities ranging from simple digging to threatening fuel leaks. The severity of the event is demonstrated by allocating different colors for alarms. The color red shows the highest severity of alarms.
These are the alarms that have to be addressed with utmost priority. Then there are amber, green, and clear alarms according to the descending order of the severity of the event. OneView can also group the alarms of a region and list all the events reported to that particular PIDS group.
The users can monitor the events effortlessly with the help of this feature. There is also an in-built alarm resolution system where alarms can be resolved on time. An alarm escalation matrix is always active to notify the users about unresolved alarms.
A detailed description of the location, related alarms, position, and regional history of the events is given in accordance with each reported alarm.
Oneview precisely tracks the position of the internal PIG and the line walker who patrols the area. The line walker can record the area he covered in an inspection through the app. According to the date, time, pids activity, channel, and anomaly frequency, OneView provides a report on the highlighted alarms and the events recorded along the length of the pipeline.
Oneview has a particular set of predefined alarm rules to define every alarm activity. There is an alarm rule engine in the system that has the power to set the alarm rules in OneView. Based on the priority, there are alarm rules differentiated into categories like the critical rule, conditional rule, aggregate rule, suspected rule, etc.
Security Tracking System (STS) and Uptime
The OneView Security Tracking System (STS) mobile application is available to record the activity of the concerned persons on the site. By giving the credentials, a line walker can record the area of his inspection. The line walker will receive notifications when he reaches near an alarm.
He can also record the action taken by him at the site to resolve an alarm or report a newly found alarm. The alarms can be reported through the STS mobile application when the line walker encounters an unusual activity during his inspection. There are also separate logins for the CROs and ROUs to manage the activities of the line walkers.
The application provides the exact location of the alarms and the real-time events. It helps to avoid hassles in monitoring and ambiguity about the exact location of the event. The monitoring system, Uptime, provides the status of embedded systems on the pipeline and of applications such as PIDS, SCADA, RTUS, Telecom Systems, and LDS systems.
The integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into photonics has helped the OneView system to effectively reduce the rates of false alarms, negative alarms, and nuisance alarms. OneView’s Machine learning library has more than 22 million sets of AI Acoustic Signature samples which enable the system to classify the activities with great accuracy and precision.
The Security Tracking System is integrated with the core of the OneView system to smoothen the process of tracking the anomalies. Out of the 26695 km of oil and gas pipelines in India, Tranzmeo’s T-Connect OneView protects around 4000 km of pipelines. The OneView system effectively minimizes material loss, avoids damages, and increases the safety of manual labor while monitoring large assets.
